NATIONAL READY MIX ADOPTS TYPE 1L (HS) PORTLAND-LIMESTONE CEMENT (PLC)

Reduces the carbon footprint of every project
at no additional cost

We’re leading the Southern California market in low carbon concrete featuring Portland-Limestone Cement (Type 1L HS).

In order to meet federal and state-mandated climate change legislation, National is moving from ordinary portland cement (Type II/V) to an enhanced, engineered cement known as Type 1L (HS). Traditional types of cement (Type II/V) are being replaced by a product that’s undergone decades of development: Portland-Limestone Cement (PLC).

  • WHAT IS TYPE 1L CEMENT?

National’s Type 1L cement is a proven, blended cement manufactured with a limestone content between 5% and 15%, meeting ASTM C595 HS (High Sulfate Resistant) guidelines. Type 1L cement will match the strength and sulfate performance outlined in ASTM C150 Standard Specification for Portland Cement while substantially reducing the ready-mix carbon footprint.

  • HOW DO BUYERS AND SPECIFIERS BENEFIT?

National Ready Mix customers can offer owners and engineers mixes that meet performance requirements at a substantially reduced carbon footprint. Type 1L PLC gives specifiers, architects, engineers, and designers a greener way to execute any structure, paving, or infrastructure project.

  • HOW CAN BUYERS BE SURE OF THE CARBON REDUCTION?

National Ready Mix provides third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that report a variety of life cycle impacts in addition to global warming potential (GWP), commonly known as “carbon footprint”. We can also demonstrate how mix design optimization can bring CO2 savings to any project.

NATIONAL READY MIX:

THE PROVEN LEADER IN SUSTAINABLE LOW CARBON CONCRETE

Projects Utilizing Type 1L Cement include:

Santa Barbara County
The first bridge in California to use National Cement’s Type 1L PLC was the $19.4-million Foothill Road Low Water Crossing in Santa Barbara, County.
Simi Valley, CA.
Concrete produced with National’s Type 1L PLC cement is being used by AMG & Associates to construct a 278-unit mixed-use residential development in Simi Valley, CA.
Ventura County
CALTRANS is involved in a major pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 101 along the coastal community of Mussell Shoals in Ventura County. The infrastructure project includes new concrete pavement batched on site and will use 11,000 tons of National’s Type 1L cement.
